We’re back for another week! The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run” is a bridge episode with no other pretensions than to entertain us for 40 minutes. Although we have to confess that we expected much more from one that marks the start of a three-week hiatus. Ready?
Here we go!
Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone Feels Good in The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run”

The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run” took several characters out of their comfort zone, giving them another perspective on the work they do every day, even, on some occasions, going back to their origins.
This is the case of Simone, who is the undisputed protagonist of the episode. In The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run,” she joined Oliver on a desk job, the same one she managed to get rid of right after arriving at the FBI. And, while having someone like Simone tied to a desk is clearly a waste of her talents, we think stepping out of her comfort zone and doing just that gave her a new point of view.
Research and paperwork are much calmer, more analytical, and less exciting than fieldwork, but they are necessary. In the paperwork, intuition plays a fundamental role in a different way than it does in fieldwork. And Simone’s intuition never fails… which is why she knew right away that she was up to something big in The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run.”
Empathy is Always the Solution

Simone, as she could not be otherwise, was right. And Oliver wasn’t counting on that in The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run.” He had a preconceived image of Simone and couldn’t guess what Garza saw in her to sign her to the team. Simone is incredible but, for many, she is… too much. And Oliver was one of them.
He wasn’t comfortable in Simone’s presence and he found her irritating. But working side by side with her made him realize who she really is. Yes, sometimes her personality is overwhelming and just too much but she is smart, instinctive, and empathetic. She worries and follows a lead until she finds out the truth.
Because of this, Oliver, unaware of her, begins to understand why Simone belongs to Garza’s group and respects her. Plus, not only did Simone step out of her comfort zone in The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run,” Oliver did as well. While Simone can’t be tied to a desk, Oliver finds his refuge there. But in this episode, he was forced to go out on the field.
That marked him and, just as Simone began to understand and respect desk work, Oliver did the same with fieldwork. They both put themselves in each other’s shoes because of this episode and that led them to understand each other and discard old prejudices and quarrels. And that makes us happy.
Other Stuff in The Rookie: Feds 1×19 “Burn Run”

- I like that Brendon and Laura spend time together.
- Laura finally decided to settle in Los Angeles…but that seems to take her one step further away from Mark.
- Fortune and Carter make a good team.
- Maybe for some Simone is too much, but for me, she is perfect just the way she is.
- The show needs to start picking up the pace to end the season with a bang.
- In other words, it’s time for the show to stop wasting time with bridge episodes.
The Rookie: Feds season 1 airs Tuesdays at 9/10 on ABC.
