We’re back from hiatus! The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red” is a fun episode, which focuses more on the personal dynamics of the team than on the action and that works quite well, leading to a good episode… although not a memorable one.
Ready?
Here we go!
Family Situations That Get Out of Control in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red”

A relaxed and innocent family situation is the starting point for a fight that focuses on Simone, Brendon, and Laura and leads them to rethink their respective personal lives.
As for Simone, in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red” she comes face to face with the limitations of her age in a physically and mentally demanding job.
And yes, I think it’s common sense to consider the limitations that this implies. But the focus of The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red” must be what it means to Simone. Is her age a problem for her to do her job? Not so far, so we don’t think there’s anything else to consider.
Age is Just a Number in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red”

Simone’s age and her previous experiences helped the team on many occasions. She connects with people, especially the younger ones, due to her previous experience as a social worker, and, on many occasions, that connection was key to solving a case.
So no, Simone’s age is not a burden or a responsibility or limitation for her. It’s an advantage. That’s why I understand why Simone got so defensive in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red.” By mentioning her age like that, they made her feel like she was a burden to the team, a liability, and that’s not fair. Although Simone crossed a dangerous line…we think it’s understandable where she came from.
And I hated the way they made her doubt her ability. Although we liked seeing that heart-to-heart conversation between Simone and Naomi. We think it’s good that she has a friend besides Brendon to lean on. We believe that Naomi as a woman of color will understand a lot that Brendon cannot.
When the World Falls Down…There’s Always Someone to Hold It Back

Speaking of Brendon, The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red” was not the best moment for him. We are glad to see that his sobriety is at the center for him, it should be so. Alcoholism is a disease that can never be cured and you shouldn’t be ashamed of it, you just have to treat it.
It’s one of the most complex diseases that exist. The support to overcome it’s essential but also trust. Brendon needs to trust that what he confesses about his addiction or other addicts to someone he trusts will stay between them. That’s why he was upset when he found out that Antoinette told Simone what he told her.
Brendon entrusted something intimate and important to her in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red.” And only her, so he felt like a betrayal when he found out that Antoinette told someone else without a second thought.
And it all felt even more horrible because the topic of conversation was his sponsor. They are so close… and confiding in Antoinette his doubts, his fears… felt like taking a leap of faith and exposing himself to her, fully vulnerable. And Brendon felt that she didn’t appreciate that.
And there is nothing further from reality.
In The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red,” Antoinette just wanted to understand him better, to know how to help him, how to take care of him, and how to make him understand that he can always be vulnerable to her because she will never judge him and will always take him by the hand to fight together. And we’re glad Brendon realized it.
We think that this helped him not to be tempted when everything seemed to urge him to drink…we are proud of him!
Decisions with Consequences in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red”

By contrast, Laura is the only one who doesn’t seem to be moving forward in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red.” The ambush she suffered was like a reality check for her and made her see more clearly the dangers the team faces every day.
In their work, everything can end in a moment and everything seems to be caught by a fine thread that sometimes seems unable to stay upright. But the way Laura had to deal with all these feelings was to lock them, and never think about them again.
But that doesn’t solve anything. Problems are not solved because you hide them, on the contrary, they get bigger. Laura made a decision in The Rookie: Feds 1×18 “Seeing Red” that will take its toll on her later…and she won’t even see it coming.
The Rookie: Feds season 1 airs Tuesdays at 9/10 on ABC.
