We’re back from hiatus! The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble” tries again to make the show something it isn’t while the Chenford crumbs can’t save a bland episode. Ready?
Here we go!
The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble” is Still Not a True Crime Documentary

It’s bad when I have nothing to say after watching an episode. I may not have a clue where to start, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. But when I watch an episode and have nothing to say about it, that’s bad because it means that the episode just made me feel like I wasted my time.
And that’s just what I felt with The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble.”
I need to fill out this review to get it to a decent length and I seriously thought about looping “Screw Flanders” — Simpsons lovers will understand — to get it done. So…here we are. And I think that sums up everything you need to know about the episode.
When will The Rookie learn that it’s not a true crime documentary? With The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble” there are already four episodes in which they try to be what they are not. And each time with worse results. They make me roll my eyes *more* each time.
Chenford Crumbs Can’t Save a Boring, No-Joke Episode

Let’s face it, The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble” is a waste of time. At times it pretends to be funny and it feels too forced and ridiculous. Other times the episode tries to be emotional… with the same results. The only thing worth watching about the episode is the little Chenford crumbs.
Yeah, it was fun to see Dim and Jucy be a couple, making out and being a much wilder version of Chenford. But…they’re not Chenford! I’d watch a whole episode of Chenford just passionately kissing and fighting, but I couldn’t care less about Dim and Jucy #sorrynotsorry.
Dim and Jucy can be seen as Chenford — Tim, seriously, it’s almost ridiculous that you’re still in denial at this point — but that doesn’t make their story matter to us, simply because they’re not the characters we love and care about.
It would be better that The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble” had dedicated its efforts to a new adventure of Chenford before whatever this episode is.
“We Are Happy Where We Are” Made our Chenford Day in The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble”

The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble” proves my point in the last few minutes of the episode when the documentary interviewer brings up the obvious physical similarities between Chenford and Dim/Jucy. It may be that, physically, both couples are a reflection of each other… but that’s as far as their resemblance ends.
The two couples have different histories, different backgrounds, and made different decisions in their lives. So they don’t have to follow the same path or end up like them. Right now, Chenford is happy where they are and their relationship is just theirs.
It’s a unique place that only they know. Neither of them knows what will happen in the future. Nobody can know. Now is the only important thing and they are happy together. Nothing else matters. And we couldn’t agree more.
So our advice is to skip The Rookie 5×18 “Double Trouble” and just watch the end of the episode. Or better, just search the internet for the few Chenford seconds of the episode and save yourself 40 minutes of your life doing nothing but wasting time. We said what we said.
The Rookie: Feds season 1 airs Tuesdays at 9/10 on ABC.
Chenford sucks and so does this season.
Thank you for posting. I have enjoyed The Rookie but I felt like I wasted an hour of my life watching this one. The story line was such a reach. The only reason I kept watching is because I kept thinking it had to be a joke or there was a twist coming. The whole doppelgänger plot is so old and seems like a flashing light that this show is in big trouble from a writing perspective.
I totally disagree with people saying it was a waste of bnb time to watch Tuesdays show. It was different, but definitively not terrible. And we did get to see a lot of Tim and Lucy. I have to say I felt bad that they killed off Dim. I kind of like the little wilder side of Tim. This in my opinion is the best season so far. It’s my favorite show, I think they are all great. Chenford is my favorite couple. They have so much chemistry you can feel the heat between them.
