Chenford’s First Discussion in The Rookie 5×16 “Exposed”
In The Rookie 5×16 “Exposed” Chenford has their first fight. And while the episode tries to make us worried about them, we’ve never been more sure that this ship is forever.
We understand Tim’s point in this discussion. He thought he got that job for himself and, in The Rookie 5×16 “Exposed,” Tim feels he only got it because of, for lack of a better word, Lucy’s machinations.
So Tim feels that he’s an impostor and that he didn’t earn his place where he is, that nobody wants him there. Tim sees himself as a plug and doesn’t feel like a full member of his new team. And he can’t bear to feel like an impostor.
Chenford = True Love
However, Lucy makes a clear point in The Rookie 5×16 “Exposed.” The most correct thing would indeed have been to talk to Tim about what she was thinking of doing, but sometimes that is not the best solution. Loving someone also means being there for them, even when they won’t let you be.
Tim would not have allowed Lucy to carry out her plan and would have continued to be miserable in a job that wasn’t meant for him. Lucy helped him out of it. She saved Tim from himself and yes, Lucy is sorry that hiding everything from Tim made him feel like an impostor, but Lucy doesn’t regret doing what she had to do to make him happy.
Lucy loves Tim and will always try to make him happy — just like Tim will do with her — and she won’t apologize for it. And that, that love so pure, the force with which Lucy talks about it, the vehemence with which she defends it against everything and everyone, including Tim himself, is what makes Tim smile in The Rookie 5×16 “Exposed.”
That’s his woman and she’s…perfect for him. He feels that way and, although he doesn’t say anything, the love he feels for her overflows through his eyes.
And yeah, we’re living in the moment when Tim gives Lucy that beautiful necklace!
