Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Which, yep, makes us feel pretty darn old. But while we sit back and tell ourselves “we’re not old, we’re vintage,” we can also celebrate this anniversary with the a new poster. Fans may be able to see this poster in-person at their local theater, as the movie will also return to the big screen for a limited theatrical run, starting April 28.
The poster was created by Matt Ferguson, who also created the poster for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back for its anniversary in 2020. He had this to say about it:
Widely considered to be one of the best movies in the Star Wars franchise, Return of the Jedi is still a somewhat divisive movie. Mostly because of the Ewoks, let’s be honest. You’re either pro-tiny bear creatures that kill storm troopers with sticks (and then maybe eat them?). Or you just don’t enjoy the concept of fun. The bears kill the most useless army in the galaxy with sticks and then probably eat them!
As always, fans took to Twitter to express their feelings about the theatrical poster, the film itself, and to argue about which film is better, Return of the Jedi or The Empire Strikes Back:
But fans aren’t the only one celebrating this landmark achievement for the beloved film. Permanent (and beloved) Grumpy Old Man Harrison Ford had a video message for the fans regarding the 40th anniversary celebration. Check it out:
