Well this episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star was certainly interesting, and unexpected. Pretty much the entire episode was one big suprise with Owen’s love life. Are we shocked? His love life has pretty much been a disaster these last four seasons. “Open” also featured Grace and her dealing with her feelings about her dad. Let’s review.

Freezing to Death
So Owen was completely surprised when Kendra’s husband shows up. Yes, Kendra is married and she forgot to share that with Owen. To be fair, she is rich and famous, so all Owen had to do was an internet search to find this out. But she should have been honest with him at the very beginning. Owen’s not too happy about this and things get awkward when Brett, Kendra’s husband, shows up at the 126 to get his sunglasses. Owen introduces Brett to everyone and TK says what we’re all thinking: Why does this keep happening? Seriously, why does Owen keep finding these people?
Brett gets pinned under his car and the 118 come to save his life. Kendra is very appreciative and even tells Owen that her marriage with Brett is dead. But Owen doesn’t want to destroy another marriage so he breaks things off. Back at home, Kendra and Brett fight over Owen and their marriage, and before Kendra goes on her run she tells Brett she hopes he freezes to death. Well, she got her wish.
Yes, Brett froze to death. His chest caving in when CPR was performed was horrifying. Seriously, was that neccessary? And what else was horrifying? The fact that the police think Kendra caused Brett’s death. Owen, please listen to us: Run, don’t walk, away from Kendra. And the next time you meet a woman you want to date, maybe just don’t. Because we’ve never seen someone with a worse dating record than him.

Grace’s Family
Moving away from the craziness that is Owen’s love life, we also got to see Grace’s parents in “Open”. Grace is still angry at her father for his affair, and we can’t really blame her. But it’s pretty obvious that she’s holding a grudge, and her parents want to spend more time with Charlie. Judd was the voice of reason this week and helped Grace see that holding on to this anger wasn’t healthy.
As Grace deals with her feelings, her mom calls 9-1-1 because Grace’s dad had a heart attack. Grace is usually so calm under pressure, but this was different. It’s always different when it’s a loved one, but we hated seeing her so upset. Her dad’s heart attack completely shook Grace. We’re so glad he survived the heart attack and the surgery, and seeing Grace’s sisters was a treat. (In case you didn’t know, those are Sierra McClain‘s sisters). They have beautiful voices. Maybe we can see Grace’s sisters again?
We hope that moving forward Grace’s dad will be a bigger part of both her life and Charlie’s life. It seems like everyone is on their way to forgiveness and a happier, healthier family. Also, we want to say how impressed we were with Judd this week. He was amazing as he supported Grace throughout everything. Judd and Grace really are the best couple.

Tongue Swelling
The first rescue (well, the only rescue that didn’t involve Brett) was something we’d never seen before. The writers definitely get points for creativity. Someone who has a condition where their tongue swells because they’re nervous or stressed out? Luckily one of her co-workers called 9-1-1 and Grace was able to walk them through how to preservce her airway she could breathe until the paramedics arrived. We’re glad she’s going to make it. However, we couldn’t help but at laugh at the end when her co-worker found his wedding ring. The whole reason why she was excited was she noticed he didn’t have it on. Oops. Like Nancy said, once the ring is on, it stays on.
