Juno Temple has seemingly landed a lead role in Venom 3 and it’s everything that she deserves. According to Deadline, she’s in talks with Sony and Marvel to join Tom Hardy who plays the lead, Eddie Brock for the third movie in the franchise. Now any other time I would take this kind of news with a grain of salt. But it’s Deadline we’re talking about here. And if they’ve got an exclusive, it’s on pretty good authority that they are locking Temple down for this role.
And it’s what Temple deserves. She’s worked hard on Ted Lasso, her latest show alongside Fargo. And it’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know her character Keeley Jones over 3 seasons. Keeley easily could’ve lasted for 3 episodes and wrapped up her arc like nothing. But Temple brought this character to life with such humor, grace, and nuance that you couldn’t help but love her from day one. And sure, some people aren’t happy with her journey in season 3, but she’s owned this role and deserves all the good things coming her way, including Venom 3.
Taking all of this into consideration, I can’t help but feel concerned about what this means for Ted Lasso. We all assumed this would be the last season. But what if it isn’t? What if this means that Keeley Jones journey is over? Personally, I don’t want to see that even if I understand that actors work around different projects. And that’s without even taking into consideration that Kelly Marcel is the director and writer for Venom 3. True that she wrote the screenplay for the previous movies in this franchise. But she also wrote the screenplay for Fifty Shades of Grey. So while we’re excited for Temple…we’re worried for Temple and wish her the best working with another character with “a gruff voice” and “fearsome temper.”
