The allegations that Tenoch Huerta is a sexual predator have not so surprisingly brought out the worst in people. For sure you have people that believe the victim. As one should do when such serious allegations are brought up. But then there are the assholes.
There are some assholes who go digging through the victim’s past to try to disprove the allegations. Then there are those who blatantly don’t believe the victim because their favorite is the subject of the allegations. But there is something so disgusting about the last kind of reaction when a good-looking man gets accused of sexual assault. I’m talking about the people who are upset they can’t thirst anymore.
And it’s about time they check their priorities.
It’s quite disgusting that in the middle of allegations, the first thing that some fans think about is how they can no longer fawn over or sexualize the person who has been accused. You saw it when Jonathan Majors was recently accused of assault, and you’re seeing it once again with Huerta. And it speaks to a disconnect between the fan and the actor where they don’t understand that this is an actual person who has allegedly hurt someone. Making it about how you can’t thirst over them anymore is deranged and such flippant behavior for such a serious matter.
This train of thought goes hand in hand with those mourning what’s going to happen to the MCU now that two of its prominent actors have been hit with serious allegations. And it’s bullshit. Sure some of you guys are joking and tweeting about how Kevin Feige must feel for a laugh. But there are some out there that are seriously worried about the continuity of the MCU and what this giant is going to do now that two of its stars have been hit with serious allegations. And again, it’s bullshit and people need to check themselves when it comes to their priorities.
Knowing Hollywood, especially after what happened with Ezra Miller in The Flash, they’re probably not going to do anything. They’re going to let it simmer down or they’re just going to watch and see if there’s more credible evidence to make a decision that will help their bottom line. But at the end of the day, they are superstars in one of the biggest franchises in the world. And it’s all about image above anything else and how that image impacts their pockets. After all, these studios are just big business.
That doesn’t mean that things aren’t different in Hollywood in comparison to 10 or 15 years ago. Powerful men have gotten away with a lot of bullshit for a very long time. But we’re living in a post-Me Too world and the shit isn’t tolerated to the same magnitude, primarily thanks to social media, which has its drawbacks but has its advantages in giving victims a voice. So studios and big businesses also take into account the social standing of someone and whether it will make the $$$ any less.
And of course, there will be those that want to shout innocent until proven guilty. But we also have to take into account that allegations like this are not easy. Coming out and speaking up against powerful men is not easy and should not be taken lightly. Especially when we take into consideration the vitriol that women get when they speak up. And we should respect the moments that they do because that is when true change can happen and powerful men will finally realize that they can’t get away with this shit anymore.
