The official trailer for Nimona is finally here and it’s giving found family feels.
For those not familiar, Nimona takes place in a futuristic medieval world. And when Ballister Boldheart, played by Riz Ahmed, gets framed for a crime he teams up with the most unlikely of allies to prove his innocence. That ally is Nimona. She’s a shapeshifting teenage disaster played by Chloë Grace Moretz. Oh, and she’s also the exact kind of creature that Ballister has been trained to kill.
What follows is a wild adventure where Nimona transforms into a whale, dragon, rhino, and so many other creatures while being adorably pink. Which is always the best color if we’re being honest. But underneath all that mayhem there is heart. Because Nimona has been abandoned and thrown around for being who she is. And as the connection between her and Ballister grows, you know that they’ll look at each other differently and form their own little found family.
Then there’s Ambrosius Goldenloin, played by Eugene Lee Yang. Because not only did Ballister get framed…he got framed while also totally having romantic feelings for this beautiful blonde babe. And look, we haven’t read the books and do know that Ballister and Nimona are trying to prove that Ambrosius and his Law Enforcement buddies aren’t the heroes that the city thinks they are. But there were moments in this trailer, particularly one where they were all cuddled up looking at the city, that tease queer goodness that can develop into a happy little found family with their disaster child.
Crossing my fingers that THAT is what happens when this movie arrives on Netflix. Because it’s giving guard falling in love with Disney Prince and adopting a child that they will make sure is cared for and loved. And we need that right about now.
