The Wildcats are back in the trailer for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series‘ fourth and final season. Entertainment Weekly exclusively unveiled the new trailer that welcomes back a few stars from the original High School Musical franchise. The Season 4 teaser trailer, released last month, revealed a few details about what their visit entails, like filming High School Musical 4: The Reunion at East High while HSMTMTS‘ Wildcats put on a production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. The meta has layers of meta this season!
Bart Johnson — HSM‘s Coach Bolton — announces that they’re “getting the whole gang back together” for the reunion film, but too many crucial Wildcats are missing for that to be the case. While Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel join Corbin Bleu (Carlos mispronouncing Bleu is as funny as ever!) to tell HSMTMTS‘ Wildcats that they will be featured extras in the movie, it’s hard not to notice that the project will be missing Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and others from the original trilogy. Of course, HSMTMTS could be holding off on those to be a surprise, which would be one heck of a way to wrap up this series.

Even if those cameos don’t come to fruition, HSMTMTS Season 4 will also bring back Kaycee Stroh — HSM‘s Martha Cox, who also appeared in Season 1 — and Miss Darbus herself, Alyson Reed.
The final season also fittingly ushers in the Senior Year for some East High students, like Kourtney and Ricky. While the former is questioning what her future entails, the latter worries that a secret relationship, a musical, and a movie may be a lot to handle. To be fair to both characters, those are some intense stressors. Luckily for Kourtney, it appears that Monique will offer her some advice. In a moment that is sure to be a tear-jerker when the season premieres on Wednesday, August 9, Monique tells Kourtney, “Wherever you end up is going to be the right place.”
Meanwhile, Rina is in their secret dating era because Gina doesn’t want to hear what anyone else has to think about their relationship, but it appears that Ashlyn is on to them. How could you not be when Ricky and Gina are adorably making heart eyes at each other in rehearsal?

As for those rehearsals, in HSMTMTS fashion, they will hit a bump or two on the road to the stage when students are more concerned with the movie than the theater.
In an attempt to bring in more people to make High School Musical 3 the best production, it appears that HSMTMTS will bring Maddox, Jet, and Emmy back into the fold. Meanwhile, Big Red, Seb, and EJ are notably absent from the trailer. Seb is featured in one of the photos for the season, and EJ shows up in the teaser trailer. So, there’s no denying that familiar faces from HSMTMTS will appear in this final season. But it’s unclear how long they’ll stick around.
So, no matter how much Disney+ reveals about HSMTMTS‘ bittersweet final bow, there is still plenty to uncover when the eight-episode season debuts next month. With all the episodes dropping simultaneously, answers will quickly reveal themselves because it will take a lot of work to pace the viewing experience. With this much nostalgia, romantic drama, and significant character changes, it’s more likely that tearful goodbyes will happen sooner than later because fans will watch the entire season in one sitting. After all, it’s “Now or Never,” Wildcats!
