Now, animated thing isn’t something we always do (unless you’re our managing editor, she knows all about this stuff), but sometimes you see something that looks interesting and you’re like let me write about it. And here we are…
When the commentary is witty, we take it all in and rejoice that we’re laughing at something that we normally wouldn’t have given a chance to.
Inspired by an epic Chinese tale, THE MONKEY KING is an action-packed family comedy that follows a charismatic Monkey (Jimmy O. Yang) and his magical fighting Stick on an epic quest for victory over 100 demons, an eccentric Dragon King (Bowen Yang), and Monkey’s greatest foe of all —his own ego!
The new animated movie features the voices of Monkey King (Jimmy O. Yang), Lin (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport), Stick (Nan Li), Dragon King (Bowen Yang), Benbo (Jo Koy), Babbo (Ron Yuan), Jade Emperor (Hoon Lee), Buddha (BD Wong), Demon of Havoc (Andrew Kishino), Red Girl (Sophie Wu), King Yama (Andrew Kishino), Wangmu (Jodi Long), Elder Monkey (James Sie), Mayor (Andrew Pang), Mayor’s Wife (Stephanie Hsu), and Mayor’s Son (Kuno Inghram).
The Monkey King premieres on Netflix, August 18th.
