Netflix’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ Releases its First Look

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, The Fall of the House of Usher being covered here wouldn’t exist. We stand with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

Death will be knocking on your door on Oct. 12. Are you ready to open? Mike Flanagan takes on Edgar Allan Poe in his next horror series The Fall of the House of Usher and we have the first look! Ready?

Here we go!

From Mike Flanagan, the creator of The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher is a wicked horror series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe.

According to the longline, ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege, and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.

Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher stars Bruce Greenwood, Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Willa Fitzgerald, Carl Lumbly, Mark Hamill, Henry Thomas, Crystal Balint, Kyliegh Curran, Samantha Sloyan, Matt Biedel, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Daniel Jun, T’Nia Miller, Paola Núñez, Sauriyan Sapkota, and Ruth Codd.

In an interview with TUDUM before WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Gugino describes the show with these words:

“It’s batshit crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.” In the series, Gugino portrays a demonic shape-shifter named Verna, whose origins can be traced back to a — let’s just say — very famous Poe character.

“There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and she is the manifestation of that,” she added. As these first-look photos and poster reveal, Verna isn’t one to be played with. “You could say she’s the executor of fate or the executor of karma,” said Gugino.

And now, it’s time for Netflix The Fall of the House of Usher’s first look!

I’m passionate about strong women, complex characters and a ship that unites the two, but above all, I love writing about them and unraveling the intricacies behind each character. The need to put those thoughts into words was what led me to become a critic. The time as a professional one taught me that writing is an art and, therefore, it never stops changing and offering new experiences.
