This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. We stand with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. Without them, the movies and television shows we cover would not exist.
We’ve had the conversation before that we think that Saoirse Ronan can do no wrong. Well, you know besides not making that cameo in Barbie, but we love her so much we’re willing to overlook that.
What can we say, we’re in a forgiving mood.
Saoirse had spoken with Harpers Bazaar UK and talked about her career on the stage, but also what type of role that she wanted to take on next.
“I would love to do something modern and funny,” she told the outlet. “But to be able to do comedy well requires so much skill and musicality. I don’t necessarily think I have that yet –although as I’ve got older, I am more comfortable and confident to try.”
She went on to speak about how she chooses her roles, “Because I am not, in my mind, a very intellectual person, I decide which jobs to do based on emotion– how I respond to the character, how delicious I find the dialogue.”
But that has changed a little over the years and how Ronan chooses her roles. The team and the environment that she’s working in are also super important. Dialogue isn’t enough.
“It’s become so important that we have a nice time, that it’s fun, and people work hard – but not to the extent it becomes toxic and overbearing,” she said.
We love that. We also know that she’d be amazing in a comedic role. We’d love to see her in one of those. You?
