The Fall of the House of Usher looks like an absolute horror delight in the official trailer for the Mike Flanagan mini-series. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s short story of the same name, it tells the story of “ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher” who “have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.”
That mysterious woman just so happens to be a familiar face, Carla Gugino. Well, there are plenty of familiar faces as Flanagan loves casting his shows from a select group of actors he’s comfortable working with. There’s Zach Gilford, Annabeth Gish, Henry Thomas, and T’Nia Miller to name a few. And of course, long-time fans recognize Kate Siegel aka the wife and working partner of Flanagan himself. We can’t forget newcomers like the iconic Mark Hamill either.
But you know what’s the best part of this official trailer? Because the horror, haunts, and spooky glowing eyes at night? The prominent role that Gugino seems to have in The Fall of the House of Usher. I’ve seen her work before. But there was something about her role in The Haunting of Hill House that burned her in my brain forever. Now she’s flexing her acting muscles again in a new show and environment that nurtures who she is. This time around, I can see her throwing it down for the mysterious role of Verna. And I’ll be there for every second of it.
