If your man cheated on you, what would you do? When you think about it, I am sure a ton of not to nice shit comes to mind. I know, I know, in todays day and age, we’re supposed to be all about females doing it for themselves. And hey, we’re all for that. We’re also in our fuck around and find out era too, so, there is that.
In Wilderness, Jenna Coleman’s character of Liv is that era too. It’s not because she wanted to be in that era, it’s because a man drove her to it.
That man, being her husband.
Now look, I am not going to sit here and tell you that I hate all men. I don’t. But when you cheat, and then you get caught and you cheat some more… well, then you really can’t blame a woman for making you remember your commitments.
And your shortcomings.
Wilderness features British couple Liv (Coleman) and Will (Jackson-Cohen) who seem to have it all: a rock-solid marriage; a glamorous new life in New York thousands of miles from their provincial hometown; and still young enough to feel that their whole lives are ahead of them. Until Liv learns about Will’s affair. Heartbreak is swiftly followed by another emotion: fury. Revenge is her only option, and when Will proposes a trip around America’s epic National Parks to give their relationship a fresh start, Liv knows just how to get it… Wilderness is a twisted love story, where a dream holiday and a supposedly “happily-ever-after” quickly turns into a living nightmare.
Episode One of the show, Happily Ever After does nothing extraordinary. It lets you know that Liv and Will are leading a life of privilege. She is the one making all the sacrifices though – giving up her life and the things that she loves to move to New York with her husband.
She’s expected to be this model wife and do everything that makes her husband look better. He’s powerful and he’s in demand. He’s always working (at least she thinks). But one day, she finds out that he’s been cheating. Like dude can’t keep his penis in his pants.
And he doesn’t mind taping it. Hell, he’s zipper down and penis out. He gives no fucks and maybe that’s part of why the viewer just grows to hate Will from the very beginning. He doesn’t care about his wife, but there is a part of the viewer that for a moment believes that he just might care. There is a part of the viewer that believes that will may not be the bad guy that we all think of him to be.
But he’s a cheater and he’s not stopping, even when he says that he is. He’s not even trying to hide it.
Like change passwords dude to something that no one can figure out. He doesn’t though. He just keeps allowing every woman who smiles at him to fall into bed with him. Or he falls into bed with her. Either way you know what we mean.
He doesn’t even think twice about recording his exploits.
He can’t even use the excuse that he tripped and fell into her vagina, because like, she was on top. Ashley Benson, who plays Cara, aka the other woman, knows that it’s being recorded – hell she’s the one doing it. Seeing her in ass floss wasn’t what we ever wanted to see, but here we are.
Liv sees the video and she’s basically choking on her tears. Now, us, we’d head right into the bathroom (he was showering) and kick his ass. But her, she decides that she’s going to take a different route.
The route of revenge.
Will comes home and the two decide to go on their dream vacation. Driving around to National Parks was not what we saw coming, but then again, that’s because we don’t do nature. We also do not do driving in cars with atrocious men who are cheating on us or you know if we are married to them, that we should be divorcing.
Jenna Coleman’s portrayal of Liv though, she makes us believe that we could do it. She makes us believe that we could handle anything. She also makes us believe that Liv can handle anything.
Even when Will is charming the shit out of Liv and the viewer, you can tell that Liv hasn’t deviated from her plans. She believed in a fairytale and what she got instead was betrayal and loneliness. She got trust issues. She got heartache.
And who wants that?
Though she has some hesitation as to what she’s going to do to her husband, we have to admit, because of his shadiness, we were kinda hoping that she really would push him into the Grand Canyon. That and then knowing that the two are supposed to be on their time alone and he’s taking calls from other women?
Hell fucking no.
Will is the cheating douchebag trash that we should all avoid at all costs. He’s a lesson in bullshit men with trash ideals. Though we are all for being a hoe when you want to be, we’re also about loyalty when you make a commitment. We’re all about loyalty overall.
What we loved about this episode was that it set us up for what looks like it’s going to be an eventful season. While we don’t really know what is going to happen, but we have our suspicions.
Right now, let us just say this – this is Jenna Coleman’s show. We don’t know if that will change, because so many characters yet to be introduced. But we’re here for the ride. We can’t wait to see what happens next in episode 2.
Wilderness is streaming now on Prime Video.
