Everyone comes together at Guy’s family home for the weekend in The Buccaneers 1×05, “Failed Betrayal.” But just because the ensemble is in one place doesn’t mean they’re all on the same page. Even after the familial and romantic bombshells in The Buccaneers 1×04, “Homecoming,” there are still many secrets among the characters.
So, it’s not a shock that things begin to unravel during this weekend getaway. The triangle blocking in the photo of Theo, Nan, and Guy alone speaks volumes of the heated tensions strong enough to light a fire during “Failed Betrayal.” No matter what may happen, The Buccaneers knows how to balance that love triangle, even in its promotional material featuring one photo of Nan and Guy and one of Nan and Theo.
On the other hand, the photos for “Failed Betrayal” tease a scene between Conchi and Nan, which have become rare treasures since Nan confronted Conchi about her self-centered habits in The Buccaneers 1×03, “The Perfect Duchess.” Similarly yet more surprisingly, a photo gives a glimpse of what appears to be a one-on-one scene between Jinny and Lizzy, an infrequent occurrence now that Lord Seadown is everywhere, always.
Perhaps most shocking is the photo of Lizzy and Guy, who haven’t shared a one-on-one scene in any of The Buccaneers‘s four other episodes. What could the two discuss? Perhaps Guy will ask Lizzy for advice about Nan. Honoria or Mabel don’t seem to need any romantic advice, as the two will finally grow closer during “Failed Betrayal.”
