Amy Winehouse is an icon and so we’re desperately hoping that the upcoming music biopic about her life is iconic. We’re desperately hoping that it is as timeless as she is.
Producers StudioCanal and Monumental Pictures have dropped the first trailer for the upcoming Back to Black and we’re going to admit that we’re a little nervous. We’re nervous because we need for this to be great and we’ve been burned way too many times by a good trailer and a lackluster movie.
This teaser trailer is GOOD.
It does give us a lot of hope that the movie was done with the full support of The Amy Winehouse Estate, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Publishing. The movie will feature many of Winehouse’s hit songs.
Back to Black tells the story of Winehouse’s early years in London, her rise to fame, and the recording of the fantastic record, Back to Black.
The movie is directed by Sam Taylor Johnson and stars Marisa Abela as the iconic singer. Starring alongside Abela are Jack O’Connell as Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Eddie Marsan and Juliet Cowan as Amy’s parents, Mitch and Janis Winehouse, and Lesley Manville as Amy’s grandmother, Cynthia.
The movie is set to be released in the UK and Ireland on April 12. Focus Features will release the film in the U.S. on May 10.
We know we’ll be watching. Will you?
