We’re simple folk. Give us a good book (based on fan fiction makes it even better), adapt it, make it a good movie and we’re totally going to be all in. The operative word here is a good movie. We’re definitely going to need that part.
If you’re like us, you’ve been sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the adaptation of The Idea of You. Because of how many times adaptations have been screwed up, we’ve been terrified of anything that came out about the movie. Not saying it’s bad – we don’t believe that’s the case. We’re just saying some other things have been bad.
But then again, not everything has starred Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine. We can’t think of a bad Anne Hathaway movie and if you can, well we’re going to hope that you reevaluate some choices.
The Idea of You tells the story of, “Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an instant, undeniable spark. As they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for.”
It’s one the best Romantic/Drama books that you have read.
We don’t make the rules – fan fiction does. We follow the paths that have been set out for us by our Twilight sisters who came before us. We respect the fact that it’s evolved from fanfiction though. The truth is Robin Lee is an absolute wordsmith and we will always appreciate everything she does.
And our hormones will always appreciate seeing Solène and Hayes come to life.
“This is your trailer,” Hathaway’s character of Solène says, coming out of the bathroom.
“Ya, I’m in the band,” Galitzine’s character of Hayes Campbell replies, “We’re performing on the main stage.”
“August Moon?” she replies.
The trailer then goes into snippets of the pieces of their relationship and how it evolved. But the point that you can’t ever forget – BOY BAND. We say that because we’re forever and always obsessed with them, and because August Moon is a fictional band we love. Yes, we know who they were in the fanfic, but we’re evolving and we love hearing this boy band come to life.
The movie will be making its World Premiere at SXSW Festival on March 16th as the Closing Night Film and will launch globally on Prime Video on May 2nd. It marks Director Michael Showalter’s return to the SXSW Film Festival after six years where he debuted and presented numerous projects such as Hello My Name is Doris (2015) and The Big Sick (2017), both of which won the Audience Award at the festival.
The Idea of You stars Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine, Ella Rubin, Annie Mumolo, Reid Scott, Perry Mattfeld, Jordan Aaron Hall, Mathilda Gianopoulos, Raymond Cham Jr., Jaiden Anthony, Viktor White, and Dakota Adan.
