Before Law & Order: SVU 25×08 hits your screens, Captain Benson (Mariska Hargitay) has some orders for us: Give the people a sneak peek. Which, of course, we know to listen to the Captain.
As you’ll see in the clip below, she’s fully in boss mode with the squad, too. Here, she’s all business, getting the latest status updates on their victim and getting the squad all set to find their perp. It’s always a relief when we’re reminded that, yes, Olivia has people she can rely on. No need to feel burdened by doing it all. Better yet, something just feels very normal and “Liv being Liv” here. With all the spiraling she’s been doing in the first half of Season 25, we truly do love to see it.
The case in “Third Man Syndrome” features a hate crime. A witness even heard “homophobic slurs” at the time of the assault. (Happy to hear Liv only references said slurs, rather than repeating them.) Even without that evidence, the targeted nature of the injuries probably speak for themselves. So, as Liv warns the squad, “we’re going to have a lot of eyes on this.” Those eyes will definitely include ours. And we’ll be on the lookout for the subject matter to be handled with the care it deserves.
As we wait to see how the case unfolds, though, we’ll go ahead and point out how the latest incarnation of the series’ elite squad is starting to find its rhythm. Whenever we bring new people in, it takes a little bit of time to see how they all fit together. And if this sneak peek is any indication, Sykes (Jordana Spiro) and Curry (Aimé Donna Kelly) are really starting to settle in and work very well with Bruno (Kevin Kane). Admittedly, we’re not sure if we can trust that Fin (Ice-T) is quite there with Curry yet, but…dare we say there’s just a tiny bit of evidence of more progress here? Here’s hoping!
Before we get to the clip, here’s just a little more background:
“A brutal assault in the street leads Carisi to pursue hate crime charges. Benson must support a homebound witness too scared to speak up.”
