Sometimes watching Palm Royale, I do believe that I have to have ingested something that I am not aware of. Why? Because it’s just so unbelievable at times. And though that isn’t a bad thing, it’s definitely not my favorite thing. I do understand that this is a television show and that they are selling a story.
But, with episode 8 of Palm Royale, I just had to wonder, what the hell is happening? Why is there a whale on the beach? Someone explain this sh** to me. It’s crazy. It’s zany. It’s just way out there.
And I am left wondering, who approved this script? What changed in this show that made it absolutely outrageous?
Maxine is in the midst of trying to put together the beach ball, but there is an issue. There is a beached whale. Like an actual whale on the beach that she needs to get off the beach. Somehow, as much as I am wondering WTF is happening, I am also thinking, well… it fits.
Maxine doesn’t know what to do with the whale and calls animal control, who basically tells her to keep it wet. The whale will either die there or it will go back in the water. It’s basically a wait and see game. Maxine enlists the only people that she knows that will help – Linda’s group of peeps.
And of course they are right there ready to take on keeping the whale wet.
But what I am curious about is what it is that they wrote Linda out this episode. Maybe it is to advance the story, who knows. But Laura Dern’s character feels bad over Robert and the Prince, as well as her Dads passing. So she’s leaving and she’s leaving her checkbook.
Douglas, always on the look out for the next investment and get rich quick scheme. He talks with Pinkie, who wants to open a new club in Palm Beach and only needs a two million dollar investment from Douglas. So what does Douglas do? Blackmails Linda.
And Linda gives him the money.
Robert is all sorts of depressed this episode, because of his Prince. He goes to a bar and that detective is there and ends up telling him how Maxine gave him the tip about the Prince being a fraud. Robert is obviously pissed and no one can really blame him. Sure, there is a friend protecting you from the person that is going to hurt you, but Maxine screwed up.
I am of the firm belief that you should hurt a person with the truth, rather than with a lie. Maxine screwed up by not telling the truth.
The thing is there isn’t a person in this show that doesn’t feel like a fraud. Maxine and Douglas sure as hell are. BUT, that being said, I don’t think that Maxine feels like she is one. I think that she thinks she’s just trying to build a better life for her and her husband. She’s just dishonest.
Okay, though, back to the whale. Maxine shows Evelyn the whale and Evelyn is entranced by the whale. She feels a connection to it. It’s all sorts of weird.
Though Evelyn is way off all the time.
Maxine is convinced that she is having karma kick her in the backside, for all she’s done. So she decides that she’s going to fix that and tries to reunite Norma with the man she once loved – who is now like ancient and gonna marry Dinah. When that doesn’t work, she gets on the microphone and and starts speaking in whale sounds to get the whale off the beach.
Lord, I am sober, but I am gonna need a drink for this crap.
That’s not going to fix Maxine’s karma though – Norma is coming for her. I have to say, Norma is resilient. She doesn’t give up on her want to kill Maxine and ends up slamming her wheelchair into her to send her overboard. Yes, it was on purpose and well, that’s a talent.
Maxine goes overboard and though I am betting my life she ain’t gonna drown, I am intrigued. Who is going to notice her gone?
SIDE NOTE: It was Douglas who was cheating with Mitzi. Lord, lets all agree to hate Douglas forever. It’s a testament to the man Robert is though that he doesn’t want to hurt Maxine though, especially after she turned his Prince in.
