To all my fellow Clone Club members, the official trailer for the Orphan Black spinoff, Orphan Black: Echoes has finally arrived. When we heard that Krysten Ritter was cast, we were already excited. And now with the trailer out, we are even more ready for this series to be released.
For those unfamiliar with Orphan Black: Echoes, the series takes place in the near future, 2052, to be exact. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity. Ritter plays Lucy, a young woman trying to make sense of her past and who she is. As it went with the original series Orphan Black, this synopsis doesn’t give much away. What we do know is that it does seem to involve cloning once again in some way.
A Completely Unique Copy of The Original
Our understanding is that this is not a reboot, but an entirely new story set in the same world. We certainly don’t think that Orphan Black: Echoes will be a replica of Orphan Black because that would be a huge mistake. There is no way to duplicate what Tatiana Maslany did playing multiple versions of herself in that show because she was phenomenal.

We’re very interested to see how Anna Fishko will tell this story and the direction it goes. We did get excited seeing Sarah’s adult daughter, Kira Manning (Keeley Hawes), in the trailer, now working as a scientist. And we may have gotten nostalgic seeing the photos on her desk. Just what Kira is doing and how she’s involved in whatever Lucy’s story is, has us very curious. Knowing what her mother and her sisters went through learning the truth about Neolution and their genetic experiments, one would think she would be on the side of good and not the bad.
Avan Jogia, James Hiroyuki Liao, Amanda Fix, Izad Etemadi, and Rya Kihlstedt also star in Orphan Black: Echoes. The series premieres June 23rd on AMC.
