Writing a script or directing a movie – two things that we don’t want to do. They seem stressful AF. This is why we admire those that do it, because the criticism and the stress of it all feels a little bit too much. Writers and directors are a breed all their own.
And we’re in awe of them.
Especially when what they produce is something that is hilarious. We needed a laugh and Prom Dates gave us just that. Thank you to Kim O. Nguyen & D.J. Mausner for that.
We asked Mausner about what inspired the film they said, “When I sat down to write it, this is my first feature that I had ever written. I wanted to write from a place that I knew, and I was very lucky and have been very lucky to have some long, strong, forever-standing friendships with my two childhood best friends.”
They continued, “I thought, “What better way to break into writing this type of script than to write from a place of experience?” I’m very lucky that my friends and I were menaces to society.”
