Well, well, well, Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise actually got GOOD. The final episode of the season was thirty some minutes of drama, chaos, and well, craziness. Maybe the season has been setting up to this. Maybe. But it shouldn’t take ten episodes to get to a point where the viewer finally feels like the show is giving you something.
But what it’s giving is kind of one of those moments where you question if it is really giving you something or if it’s setting up for a second season. Definitely leaning towards the second season thing – because of the way it ended, but we will definitely get there.
One thing that I have done this entire season is drag this show, because of Elizabeth Chambers. I do believe that she is a narcassist and I do think that she lives in a state of delulu. This episode made me believe that more but also feel sorry for her. It made me feel like I was looking at someone who was very confused, but also very out of touch with reality.
Now, Elizabeth doesn’t get why people on the island don’t like her. She doesn’t understand what these people would have against her, but also doesn’t see how she acts. She doesn’t seem to understand her own actions and the gravity of her attitude.
I do also understand how, to a point, she feels like people are trying to insert themselves into her life. I do get that she may feel that way, because that’s what a lot of people do to people in Hollywood. But lets be honest, being guarded doesn’t give you the right to be mean to people. It doesn’t give you the right to treat people as if they are beneath you.
But for Elizabeth, she conveys the situation to her Dad, as though people are accosting her. In the whole conversation with her Dad about the situation, she takes no accountability for her actions. It’s kind of a scary place that someone exists in when they think that they are above reproach.
She does finally decide to show up to a party that everyone is going to be at, which I will commend her for. She is finally willing to show up for Julian. The issue is though, she always has an ulterior motive and can’t seem to even to figure out that she’s part of the problem.
A big part of the problem.
It’s Easter and everyone is going to Julian’s for Easter. He’s a good man throwing the party, because I have to be honest, I would be like these crazy people are coming no where near my house. However, he decides that he’s going to throw the party at his parents and it will be fun.
Easter is supposed to be the holiest of days and well, this show means that it is going to be a day of DRAMA. Julian is listening to what everyone is telling him about Elizabeth and he decides that he is going to need to talk to her.
But he’s not the only one. Vic decides that she needs to also. And well, TBH, her talking to Elizabeth is the only thing that I find a little weird. I find it weird, because she’s so even tempered and it feels like up until this point she’s been so tolerant of everything. So why now, all of the sudden, does she feel the need to speak up? It feels a little bit out of place.
Then again, she’s pissed off at Dillion and feels the need to find some control back in her life, so maybe I should be looking at it from that point of view. I do think that a person has to do what they have to do.
But the person she should be telling off is Dillion.
I get that Vic is all about honesty and transparency, but I don’t think that it is important what Elizabeth has to say about anyone. I get that no one likes to be talked about though. Apparently Elizabeth was telling people that Vic was obsessed with her.
No one is going to believe that.
Everyone knows that the Easter celebration is going to be a lot of drama. There is a lot that the group has to come to terms with. Julian has decided that he’s going to speak to Elizabeth all about how he’s feeling.
Chelsea has decided that she’s going to speak to Dillion about all of the drama that he’s started.
Vic is going to speak to Elizabeth.
My head is spinning.
When Dillion and Terry arrive, they bring alcohol and their superiority complex. I have literally never seen two people who are so unaware of who they are – ever. Dillion thinks that he’s done nothing wrong – ever. At least that is the vibe I get. He’s the type of person who really just does nothing but collect receipts and use them to his advantage. He collects receipts in hope to remain in power.
The thing is that he has no power.
When Chelsea confront Dillion about what he said, he again, takes no responsibility for anything. He tries to gaslight her and she’s not falling for it. I will say this about Chelsea, she’s really stepping into her own. She can take responsibility for what she’s done. She knows that she’s not perfect on any level, but she’s a Mama and he poked the bear.
As Dillion continues to be the absolute worst, he pushed Julian and Chelsea’s not having it. She has more words with him and he doesn’t care. He’s crazy. I have to commend Julian though, he steps in again and separates the two. You know it won’t be the end of it though, because Dillion is a jerk. He and his wife talk all sorts of crap about Chelsea and she overhears, causing her to Terry what she said.
Now, here’s the first reason I will never ever think anything but the worst of Dillion. He steps up to a woman and looses his crap. He has so many issues and the way he acts like he’s going to do something to her is just disgusting. I am thankful that people step in, but the reality is that when people show you who they are, you believe them.
He shows himself to be kinda a nutcase. Thankful that others step in and stop him – leading him off to calm down. He claims he only got that mad because Chelsea came at Terry. I am sure what was edited out, but no one attacked his wife. The only person attacking anyone is him.
I am not understanding why people keep giving Dillion a chance, but here we are. I will say that the person that I didn’t think would come to his senses about Dillion does. Thank the lord that Trevor came to his senses and told Vic that he doesn’t want Dillion at the wedding.
It’s when he told Dillion that I got scared. Dillion is unhinged and who knows what he will do. He acts as though he’s the victim though and when in his confessional he asks if they know what happened in the back room. He says he’ll save that for season two.
Just when you thought no one could be worse than Elizabeth, Dillion makes her look like a girl scout.
Now speaking of Elizabeth, she does show up. It’s actually quite impressive, because well, didn’t see that coming. Definitely thought that she would bail on the party but she does show up. She even brings cookies (hopefully they are from Bird Bakery).
When Julian asks to talk to Elizabeth, I didn’t know what I expected. But I did not see her being such a raving crazy person when he tries to talk reasonably to her. She demeans him and tells him to grow up, basically.
Like Dillion, Chambers acts like a victim. She’s not one. Now where there isn’t anything but circumstantial proof of what she’s done – it’s her attitude about everything that makes her look guilty as sin. She acts so above everyone else and that is definitely hard to watch and stomach. I think that somehow, she thinks that she’s been wronged.
I know that she’s been going through a lot (I read the news) but the way she attacks Julian is just gross. And then the way that she goes off on Vic. Chambers doesn’t want to be held to the fire by anyone and if we’re being honest, I can’t blame her. I actually don’t think anyone does. Yet, just because we don’t want something in life doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t happen and that it doesn’t need to happen.
We all don’t like being called out for crap. It’s just that sometimes we need to. It’s a matter of how you react to things. Elizabeth doesn’t react in a way that is a positive. She acts in a way that makes her look even more insane.
Chambers has chosen a certain way to portray herself and it’s not the most positive way. She has chosen to not let people in and has chosen to push everyone away. She takes advantage of those around her and doesn’t think that doing just that is going to leave her isolated.
If you watch this show and you see the way that Chambers reacts – you will see the type of person that you don’t want to be. At least you don’t want to be the type of that this show has her edited to be.
I don’t care about the type of editing on Dillion – he’s evil. I will accept no other alternatives to that narrative.
The first season of Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise has come to a close and well, we have a lot of thoughts. But if there is one thing that we do know is that the last two episodes were the best of the season.
We don’t know if there will be another one, but we do know that not all of these people are Cayman kind.
