Our teenage video gaming hearts are brimming with excitement. The news of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider series getting the green light from Amazon has us all buzzing. This week, the Upfronts are in full swing, an annual event where television network executives and major advertisers come together. It’s a time when marketers can secure television commercial airtime months before the season begins.
We’ve been keeping our eye on all the entertainment news coming out of the events, and the announcements are nonstop. Jen Salke, Head of Amazon and MGM Studios announced Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider adaptation during the Amazon Upfronts event held in New York. As longtime fans of the Tomb Raider video game that features tomb raiding bada$$ Lara Croft, we couldn’t be more excited about this. We know there have been a few adaptations of the popular video game, which have starred my personal favorite, Angelina Jolie, in the 2001 and 2003 versions. And, of course, there is the 2018 version, which stars Alicia Vikander as Croft.

Waller-Bridge, who is the creator and star of Prime Video Comedy-drama Fleabag, is writing the Tomb Raider series and had this to say about being able to bring this to life: “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
We love that Tomb Raider means so much to Waller-Bridge because it means something to us as well. Right now, no cast has been announced, but you know we will be keeping our eyes out, as always, for any news that drops.
