Nicolas Cage is about to terrify audiences in the highly anticipated movie Longlegs. For months we’ve been teased with cryptic messages and videos about this movie. And it’s created a frenzy where people online are trying to decode, breakdown, or figure out what this all means. With the official trailer for the movie finally here, we have some answers but plenty of questions.
Longlegs tells the story of FBI Agent Lee Harker. She’s played by Maika Monroe from It Follows and Watcher. She “uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve to end his terrifying killing spree.” The particular killing she’s focused on seems to be about a mother, father, and their daughter. And it’s all tied together with this dark presence voiced by the one and only Nicolas Cage.
In the trailer you don’t see him, but you sure do hear him. As Agent Harker starts to decode the occult clues, it seems like Cage’s character is now haunting her. In the first seconds you can hear his voice after the creepy knocking. And then later on he says, “I know you’re not afraid of a little bit of dark because you are the dark.” He also says, “You could’ve played nice with me. But you didn’t. And that, has led to all of this. I’ll be waiting.”
For fans of Cage, we’re used to him taking on weird roles. He played Dracula in Renfield, a silent but deadly stranger in Willy’s Wonderland, and a superhero in Kick-Ass. But this role is taking it to another level. Early reactions have called his performance “disturbing,” “nightmarish,” and “maniacal.” And even though we don’t want to get our hopes up, this is looking to be Cage at his finest.
