During the latest episode of Interview with the Vampire, AMC released a short teaser to tell us when Mayfair Witches will be back. The promo encourages viewers to “embrace the darkness” as the faces of several cast members appear on screen one by one. Just before the title card and release date show up, we — and Rowan Mayfair — receive another message: “Use the power that’s rightly yours.”
Also, of note: There’s an hourglass involved. So, we’re pretty sure someone, somewhere was inspired by Days of our Lives. If not, that’s one witchy coincidence.
Admittedly, we were kind of torn on what we thought of the series’ first season. And it looks like we’re in good company there, as online reactions to the news drop for Season 2…were mixed. To say the least. Unfortunately, online fandom is usually at its best when it’s kind of being the absolute worst. So, that means some of the most entertaining reactions were, uh…how should we put this? Let’s just say they were not of the “excited for the new season” or “love this show” variety. It’s really giving “we remember how bad things can get when you mix the Mayfairs with the vampires. See also: Blood Canticle” out here…
Some fans just want to “focus on the vampires,” and we can’t argue with that. Especially with as good as the most recent episode was. More importantly, as many people pointed out, the news we really want right now is a guarantee that we’re getting Interview with the Vampire Season 3.
Others’ reactions went for straight-up unimpressed, including a Mean Girls meme (triggered) and a beautiful screenshot of Assad Zaman’s Armand. (Which…let’s be real: there’s no such thing as a shot of him that isn’t beautiful. But anyway.)
At the end of the day, we’re always happy to see the people who work hard on these shows get a chance to keep doing the thing they love. Despite being fans of Anne Rice’s work and/or just this particular adaptation of it, though, we’re thinking many of us who love IWTV are…maybe not the target audience for Mayfair Witches news. While we can’t speak for every viewer out there, we’re thinking that’s probably because one series took far more liberties with the books it was adapting than the other one did. We’ll let you guess which is which.
