Recasting is a word that always scares us. We never know where it came from, what happened, and the reasons why. While any announcement of a recasting will normally say “timing conflict” or “creative comment” – if we’re being honest, we rarely believe in those. Though we’re not sure if we should be so jaded.
The latest recasting comes from We Were Liars. Arsher Ali has departed the series, due to a recasting after creative changes. Who is replacing him? Well that would be Rahul Kohli, who we LOVED on iZombie.
Kohli will be playing Ed. Ed is descriped as, “magnetic, wryly funny and patient to a fault.” While Ed owns an art gallery in Brooklyn, but he spends his summers with long-term partner Carrie (Gummer) and at her family’s sprawling summer house. The family is like – think Kennedy-esque and Ed has never felt like he fits in. He has done his best to impress Carrie’s father, who is BEYOND mean to him, but this summer it’s becoming hard for Ed to be the dutiful partner he’s been for years.
The series, We Were Liars, which is inspired by E. Lockhart’s novel of the same name, comes from Julie Plec, Carina Adly MacKenzie, Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie reuniting for a show? Yes, you had our attention with that.
There are times where we are in awe of casting and times where we are not. Sometimes we don’t get it and sometimes casting falls together so beautifully. In the case of We Were Liars – we get it, we love it, and it definitely fits together so beautifully. The latest additions to the cast have us believing in and bowing down at the altar of Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie.
Already cast on the show are Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, Candice King, Emily Alyn Lind, Esther MacGregor, and Joseph Zada, as well as newcomer Shubham Maheshwari.
