With so many sequels and remakes hitting theaters in 2024, it’s nice to see a unique take like Jackpot! hit our screens. And trust us, the official trailer for the Amazon Studios movie gets better after you get past the awkward introduction by John Cena and Awkwafina. In fact, it gets pretty physical as everyone is after goes Mad Max in their hunt for Awkwafina’s character. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
Awkwafina plays Katie Kim, an aspiring actress who moves to Los Angeles to follow her dream. Her acting career is put on pause when she wins the Grand Lottery by mistake. Unbeknownst to Katie, if someone kills the winner before sundown they legally can claim the multi-billion dollar jackpot. And if it wasn’t for John Cena’s Noel Cassidy rescuing Katie, she’s be done for.
Cena plays an amateur lottery protection agent who will protect Katie. Well, as long as she gives him a piece of the prize. And from the way that they dodge molotov cocktails, martial artists, and hordes on the streets, it seems like Katie accepts. But trouble is brewing as Noel’s rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu) ALSO wants to get his hands on Katie’s prize. And he doesn’t care what he has to do to get his hands on it.

In the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot. When Katie Kim (Awkwafina) moves to Los Angeles, she mistakenly finds herself with the winning ticket. Desperate to survive the hordes of jackpot hunters, she reluctantly joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must face off with his slick rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who also seeks to collect Katie’s commission at all costs.
