We’re covering The Bachelorette this season, so yes, you can buckle yourself in for The Bachelorette reviews and news. When you ask yourself why we’re writing about the show, it’s because of Jenn Tran. The woman impressed us on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Jenn Tran has a presence and it’s definitely one that
And we’re loving the fact that she speaks her mind and tells it like it is for her. She spoke with Glamour about the upcoming season and the lack of casting Asian men on the season, “I can’t really speak to the casting process and the decisions that were made, but it is unfortunate that there weren’t a lot of Asian men this season.”
She continued, “Asian men haven’t always seen themselves in this position, and I am hoping that me being here and [contestant] Thomas N. being there, that the both of us can inspire other Asian men to realize that they can do this too if they want. They can be in this position as well. I’m hoping that it inspires them.”
Jenn Tran isn’t the first person to criticize the franchise for their lack of representation and she won’t be the last. It seems that the producers of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise never learn, as they’ve been criticized before and reminded that representation matters.
People deserve to see themselves on television. It’s so important.
But we are impressed that Producer Bennett Graebner acknowledged that they failed on the casting of Asian men this season to the Los Angeles Times.
He said, “That’s on us. We didn’t do what we needed to do. Our hope is that they will see Jenn and realize this is a safe space. We’re not saying it will solve and fix everything. But it is a step.”
We do hope that the show realizes that they need to listen to the feedback that they do get and that they do better with representation all the way around.
This season of The Bachelorette premieres tonight on ABC. We can’t wait to watch Tran be the main character in her own love story. We have a feeling this season is going to be great.
At least we hope so.
