What makes a “Hallmark Hunk” to you? For me, it’s someone attractive – both inside and out. It’s someone humble and fun. It’s someone that can transport you out of the life that you are living currently and give you an escape. It is someone who doesn’t take themselves so seriously. They definitely put family first.
And it’s someone that really can understand and get the meaning of Christmas (well all holidays really) and the heart of people.
So yes, it makes me interested to see Finding Mr. Christmas. Why? Because the idea of what makes a “Hallmark Hunk” is different to everyone and I can’t wait to see what that term means to Jonathan Bennett and Melissa Peterson.
The new reality show, which will air on Hallmark+ (the channels new streaming service), was announced at the 2024 Television Critics Association Tour. Bennett took time to speak to First For Women about the show.
“We take 10 hot guys, we put them in a house, and our goal is to find the next Hallmark Channel star,” sets up Bennett. “It’s like RuPaul’s Drag Race meets The Bachelor meets Christmas. Each week, one guy will get eliminated.”
Well with that description we are even more intrigued than we were. It sounds amazing.
Bennett continued, “They’re put through fun, over-the-top mini-challenges that test their holiday spirit – whether it’s wrapping gifts or making an ugly Christmas sweaters. And then the second challenge is called their Star Quality Challenge. It tests how they perform each of the tropes of a Hallmark movie that our fans have come to know and love – like the meet-cute, the apology and the kiss.”
We’re definitely all in for this, but what we loved the most about Bennett was what he said next.
“You don’t just have to be good-looking,” he said. “You have to be funny and charming and kind and talented and be a good person and have a big heart – all the things everyone’s come to know and love about our stars. That’s what we’re judging.”
He knows the Hallmark audience and what we all definitely want. We love and appreciate that about him.
What are your thoughts? Is this a show that you’ll be watching?
