If you’re like us, anything having to do with The Vampire Diaries was life. We loved the show. Hell, we still love it and sometimes (not ashamed to admit it) retreat back and rewatch our favorite episodes from the show.
One person that we absolutely loved on the show was Torrey Devitto. The actress once appeared in six episodes of the show and well then never returned. As fans, we’ve always wondered why, but now we have an explanation as to why.
Some may remember that the actress dated and married one time co-star Paul Wesley. The two eventually divorcing in 2013.
“I only did, like, six episodes,” Torrey explained on Rachel Bilson‘s Broad Ideas podcast. “And then once we were splitting up, I was like, ‘Pfft, not going back there.’”
We don’t think any of us can blame her for that. We wouldn’t go back either. Divorce happens for a reason.
It is what she said after that broke our hearts. The actress talked about the really “dark time” after that, in part due to the scrutiny that she received from The Vampire Diaries fans.
“That did garner a bit of attention in a way that I don’t think I was prepared for,” Torrey said. “And then it was hard too because for a couple years, anybody that I would date afterwards, people would just [say], ‘He’s so disgusting. He’ll never be Paul. How could you do this?’”
We’re not going to get started on how disgusting it is that a fanbase could make someone feel that way, but we’re also not surprised. But we would like to take a moment to remind everyone that actors are real people.
