Lately, we don’t even read trades, mainstream media, or reviews in order to find books. We sit ourselves down and open up TikTok, searching through #BookTok to see what everyone is talking about.
We can all say what we want to say, but #BookTok is an important way to promote a book. It’s a way that we can see the excitement for a book and really feel the passion that people have for a book. Passion is so important to see how people really feel.
#BookTok has launched a lot of books and enhanced a lot careers. One of the most recognizable books is The Fourth Wing. The book, written by Rebecca Yarros, went viral thanks to #BookTok and it propelled it to No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list.
Now we had no idea that TikTok had Book Awards, but they do. We know that there are book awards, but hey, had no clue that the social media platform had their own. The TikTok Book Awards were held this week in London, and the award for international book of the year went to The Fourth Wing.
Members of the literary world came up with the shortlist and then winners were chosen by the #BookTok community, with over 80,000 people submitting their votes.
Yarros wasn’t able to attend the awards, but did send a video message that said, “It has been a wild ride, and none of it would have happened without TikTok! Huge love to the #BookTok community.”
