There’s something about animation. But not just all animation, of course. It needs to have a heart. It needs to have a spark. It needs to leave you, well …spellbound. And it would be good if it could make you laugh a little and perhaps teach you something while at it.
Spellbound, the new Netflix animated movie starring Rachel Zegler, John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Tituss Burgess, Nathan Lane, and featuring Javier Bardem and Nicole Kidman looks ready to fulfill all our animated desires. It follows the adventures of Ellian, the tenacious young daughter of the rulers of Lumbria who must go on a daring quest to save her family and kingdom after a mysterious spell transforms her parents into monsters.
“I hope that audiences will see how incredible the art of animation is when it comes to teaching tough lessons to the next generation.” Rachel Zegler, the voice of Ellian, told Tudum. “Spellbound handles delicate subjects with a lot of beautiful imagery, music, and an allegorical approach to real-life issues that kids sometimes face.”
The movie is directed by Vicky Jenson (Shrek) with an original score from EGOT-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast) and lyrics by Glenn Slater (Tangled).
