“I don’t know how it started. It’s like a hole opened up in the world to the center of nothingness.” Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash) says in the voiceover as the official teaser trailer for Grotesquerie starts. From then on, we see a plethora of images that make you have to take a second look. Just a few days ago, the release date and key art for Grotesquerie were announced, and we told you we hoped a trailer wasn’t too far behind. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long at all. We will say this: after watching that teaser, we are officially freaked out.
As we previously told you in Ryan Murphy’s 10-episode drama series Grotesquerie, “a series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone—or something—is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care, and her inner demons. With no leads and unsure where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond), a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.”
That last part about having more questions than answers is relatable because we, too, have questions now.
Who is Creepy Hoodie Person?

All throughout the teaser for Grotesquerie, we intermittently see a creepy person dressed in all black with a hood over their head. Who is this person? and what are they up to? Is it the killer?
Who is the creepy preacher?

Okay, who is this creepy preacher? We can barely make out the face. Is this Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s character Father Charlie or someone else? Is it someone who follows Father Charlie and is just leading some sort of church service? Whoever it is, they’re hardly recognizable in this shot.
What’s in the meat grinder?

What’s in the meat grinder? you know what? actually, we don’t wanna know.
What’s up with the hotel swimming pool?

Seriously, what is up with this hotel swimming pool? it’s boiling hot and we can’t imagine things going well for anyone who steps inside for swim. Also, there’s creepy hoodie person again standing and watching the water boil.
Who is the mystery dude holding the dagger?

Yet another mystery person we’re trying to figure out. Okay, we know we said that the creepy preacher could be Father Charlie (Chavez) but, we’re also thinking this could be him as well. The back of this dude looks fairly familiar to those of us who remember him from his time as Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital. Also, something of note, with Ryan Murphy projects sometimes a person can play more than one character. Perhaps both creepy preacher and this muscular mystery dude are Father Charlie? hopefully we’ll get more detail soon because as we said, we don’t know if Father Charlie is good or bad. But, based on what Sister Megan says about the killer “sermonizing, proselytizing, and preaching” anything is possible. Especially with Murphy.
What’s up with the hellfire hole growing in the middle of town?

This hellfire sink hole is giving Hellmouth from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Does that mean that in Grotesquerie it is literally hell on earth? what is the reason for this hole opening up? and most importantly, can it be stopped?
Who’s hosting this weird dinner party and what’s on the menu?

This is one very strange dinner party. Who is the host? what’s being served? and what is wrong with everyone because clearly they’re under some sort of trance.
What is Travis Kelce doing?

Since it was announced that Travis Kelce was cast in Grotesquerie, his character has been kept tightly under wraps. We’re not sure why because in this teaser he looks pretty average. Although when you watch, he’s doing some weird movement with his hands that look as if he’s performing some sort of ritual. We’re speculating now based on some behind the scenes footage we saw during filming courtesy of Nash, that he may be playing an orderly taking care of Lois’s husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance). He could also be the killer. Or a follower of Father Charlie. Or both. As we said, with Murphy, anything is possible.
Well, as you can see we had a lot of questions. Now you can watch the teaser for yourself and see what questions it leaves you with.
