Prime Video let us down big time! According to Deadline, the streaming service canceled My Lady Jane after just one season. If you want to know the details, keep reading! Ready?
Here we go!
Prime Video’s decision to axe My Lady Jane so early may seem surprising at first glance, given that the show was praised by critics and was reaching a sizable niche audience.
However, this edgy romantic drama that mixes historical romance, fantasy, adventure and comedy, never made it into Nielsen’s Top 10 weekly streaming rankings for originals, which it would have done if Prime Video had promoted the show even a little bit. Just saying.
Created by Gemma Burgess based on the 2016 YA historical fiction novels, My Lady Jane tells the story of one of England’s monarchs with the shortest rule, the 16th century Lady Jane Grey, aka the Nine Days Queen.
Mixing palace intrigue with a fantastical take on class, the series is set in a world inhabited by Ethians, humans who can take animal form, who are banished from society by the ruling class of regular humans, known as Verity.
For fans who have yet to enjoy the series and are afraid that it will end with an open ending, this is not the case. Although in the last minutes of the show it is implied that there are still many stories to explore, My Lady Jane gives a happy ending to its main ship, formed by Lady Jane Gray (Emily Bader) and Lord Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel).
Burgess and Meredith Glynn served as co-showrunners and executive producers. Jamie Babbit directed five of the eight episodes and was producing director/executive producer. Sarah Bradshaw and Laurie MacDonald also executive produced.
My Lady Jane season 1 is available to stream on Prime Video.
