We’re about three weeks from the season two premiere of Netflix’s popular true-crime anthology Monsters. While that may seem like a long wait, September 19th will be here before we know it. In the meantime, we’ve got you covered on what you need to know about the second season from creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
“Following the massive success of DAHMER, season two returns with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, chronicling the case of the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez. While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.”
Starring in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story are Javier Bardem (José Menendez), Chloë Sevigny (Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez), Cooper Koch (Erik Menendez), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Lyle Menendez), Nathan Lane (Dominick Dunne), and Ari Graynor (Leslie Abramson).
Additional key cast includes Leslie Grossman (Judalon Smyth), Dallas Roberts (Dr. Jerome Oziel), Paul Adelstein (David Conn), Jason Butler Harner (Det. Les Zoeller), Enrique Murciano (Carlos Baralt), Michael Gladis (Tim Rutten), Drew Powell (Det. Tom Linehan), Charlie Hall (Craig Cignarelli), Gil Ozeri (Dr. William Vicary), Jeff Perry (Peter Hoffman), Tessa Auberjonois (Dr. Laurel Oziel), Tanner Stine (Perry Berman), Larry Clarke (Brian Andersen), Jade Pettyjohn (Jamie Pisarcik), Marlene Forte (Marta Cano), and Vicki Lawrence (Leigh)
Murphy, David McMillan, Todd Kubrak, Ian Brennan, and Reilly Smith wrote the 10-episode second season. Murphy and Brennan are executive producers with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, David McMillan, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin, Javier Bardem, Paris Barclay, Michael Uppendahl, and Max Winkler.
Netflix finally gave us what we’ve been waiting for since the second season was announced. We now have key art, a teaser trailer, and a first-look photo.

And now, for the thing you came here for—the teaser trailer. And we have to admit it is a bit disturbing. That voiceover of Kitty and Jose talking as the family portrait shifts from what appears on the outside to be a loving family to one hiding a dark secret is something. Lyle and Erik’s body language is incredibly tense and uncomfortable. When their parents get up and leave, there is a moment shared between the boys that shows the audience that something is bubbling up under the surface. The teaser ends with the boys shirtless and hugging each other. A gunshot is fired, and Lyles’s face is splattered with blood as we hear him say, “It’s just us now. We’re on our own.”
