With The Rings of Power back for season 2, there’s one character that’s been absent: Bronwyn. Played by Nazanin Boniadi, Bronwyn was a human from the Southlands who played a central role in Season 1 of the Prime Video series. And she had the beginnings of an epic romance with Arondir just blossoming. But when Season 2 premiered, it was shocking to find out that Bronwyn had died, brutally ending her storyline.
Back in May of this year Deadline reported that The Rings of Power actress wouldn’t be returning to the role of Bronwyn for Season 2. Even worse, the heroine and Theo’s mother wouldn’t be recast. The actress has stepped away from acting in the past few years “to focus solely on the #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran and to advocate for the people in my homeland who have been risking everything for freedom.”
However, that’s not why Boniadi left the show. In an Instagram post, she confirmed she had other projects coming up and said that her decision had nothing to do with her advocacy. She added, “Throughout my career, the values that I have held most dear are honesty, empathy, and integrity. My character Bronwyn was committed to these same ideas in striving for a fairer world.”
Last we saw Bronwyn, she’d survived the eruption of Orodruin and made her way to the camp with Arondir, where she was reunited with her son Theo. Afterward, she decides to lead her people to Pelargir, one of the earliest settlements of the Númenóreans. She was injured by an orc arrow, which we now know poisoned her and led to her death.
As the show premiered, Boniadi posted a photo of herself with a dog and captioned it with a quote from Harvard professor Arthur C Brooks, and said “that “achievement without impact is fleeting.” I couldn’t agree more. For me, authenticity and personal integrity are non-negotiable. After traveling across 6 continents, I’ve learned that happiness is as diverse as the cultures we experience.”
The Rings of Power Season 2 airs new episodes every Thursday.
