NCIS will return for Season 22 next month and a picture is finally starting to form about what’s coming — particularly when it comes to Katrina Law’s Jessica Knight. After the Season 21 finale, titled “Reef Madness,” left the future of Katrina Law’s Jessica Knight on the show in doubt, the show’s Season 22 cast pictures were the first thing to provide some certainty about Law’s status on the show. And then, we got some detailed info about where the show would pick up after the hiatus.
Is Katrina Law Returning to NCIS for Season 22?
The answer is yes! And, if we’re being honest, we didn’t think Law was actually leaving, even if she did take the job as NCIS REACT Chief Training Officer at Camp Pendleton. Camp Pendleton isn’t as far as the first job she was offered (her dad’s old position), which was half a world away, but it’s still not as close as it needs to be for her to be a series regular. But the more time passed without a confirmation, we admit we did worry a bit—just a tad. However, the more time passed without a confirmation she was leaving, the more we also thought …there’s no way she is, right?
Seems like that second voice was right! Because yes, cast pictures! But also EW’s Fall preview has some interesting information about NCIS, including that the show’s 22nd season will pick up six months after the Season 21 finale, with Knight’s departure wreaking havoc on the team. “The team kind of separates, so picture Parker [Gary Cole] walking into the bullpen and the kids aren’t home,” showrunner Steve Binder told EW. The preview also teases that, six months will be enough to have Knight wondering if she made a mistake leaving Jimmy behind (I’m of the you had to try it, but you did camp)
Then there’s TVLine’s Fall Preview, which confirms that the premiere will pick up six months later and gives us some more details on where we’ll find Knight in the premiere, with showrunner Steven D. Binder telling the outlet that “We’re going to find her out there in San Diego, and she’s going to have gotten into some trouble. Fitting trouble for someone who’s a hostage negotiator,” adding that “that throws the whole trajectory of everything up in the air.”
Does that sound like we’ll get Knight back sooner rather than later? Because that’s what it sounds like to me. In the meantime, since Katrina Law is in the cast pictures, I think that puts any worries that she might be leaving to rest.
Here are those cast pictures for Season 22. Everyone is looking pretty great. No one is looking better than Law, though, maybe because it’s just good that we’re seeing her.
