It feels like it wasn’t too long ago that the news broke that stars Hillary Burton and Sophia Bush, along with Danielle Ackles, are working on a reboot of One Tree Hill for Netflix.
And yet it also feels like it was so long ago, because we’re anxiously awaiting any news about the possibility of a reboot. One Tree Hill defined a lot of our lives. We lived and died by the relationships, the characters, and well… even the far fetched things that would never happen.
One Tree Hill, we would argue, defined a generation and continues to give definition to so many.
Though there isn’t a “big” update, there is an update. On the podcast, Drama Queens, Bush gave an update to what was going on with the possible reboot.
“What I can say is that after, God, close to half a decade of these conversations, we’ve been able to all sort of divide and conquer in the coolest way. And those of us with TV producing experience are having some really exciting conversations,” she said.
“So I think that’s all I can say on this podcast, but I do hope we have exciting updates, and I hope we get great news, and we have a big announcement,” she added.
The leak of the news wasn’t something that anyone had planned on, but hey, these days it feels like everything leaks. So for us it wasn’t a big surprise.
Bush said about the leak, “Do I wish that the news hadn’t leaked before we could announce it was official? Sure. But if it happens, I will be so freaking proud, much like we said, that every single person gets to bring their expertise to the table now.”
Burton and Bush are set to reprise their roles at Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis. The show is being written by Becky Hartman Edwards and she will executive produce. Warner Bros. TV is also working on the reboot. Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles also executive produce through their Chaos Machine banner.
We just don’t want to see Mark Schwan working on the project, but all reports say that he won’t be.
The reboot is said to focus on Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens. They are facing challenges such as “love, insecurities and grief.”
If you aren’t familiar with the original series – you need to do yourself a favor and watch it immediately. It focused on two half brothers, Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan (James Lafferty). It was about the way that they navigated their lives through highschool and beyond. It’s a coming of age story that helped everyone who watched it navigate their lives.
The show was anchored by its supporting cast, Burton, Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz, Austin Nichols, Jana Kramer, Stephen Colletti, Antwon Tanner and Paul Johansson.
The chances of One Tree Hill coming back means everything to its fans. This one included.
