The John Wick universe has become one of the must-see movies for antiheroes fans! And a new chapter that promises to expand this world full of intrigue and revenge is coming. Ana de Armas’ Ballerina is everything we dreamed of and its trailer left us speechless. Ready?
Here we go!
Directed by Len Wiseman, Ballerina is set in the same universe as John Wick, but with a new perspective focused on the character of Eve, played by Ana de Armas. This character was briefly introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and now, the film will allow us to learn more about her life.
The trailer shows Ana de Armas as Eve, a little ballerina who, after a visit from a man who makes her an offer she can’t refuse, ends up going to a dance school to improve her technique as a dancer. However, Eve learns another kind of dance.
The ballet school she attends is actually a front for the training of lethal assassins. So Eve begins intense training to avenge the murder of her family. Eve faces enemies with ferocious skill, and we wouldn’t want to be on her path to revenge.
But beyond being an assassin, Eve is a woman who lost too much too soon and it has marked her entire life. She is strong but also vulnerable and has to learn to survive in a hostile world and to kill before she is killed.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Ballerina trailer is the confirmation that familiar characters from the John Wick universe will appear in the film. Keanu Reeves will reprise his iconic role as John Wick, although his involvement appears to be secondary, serving as a mentor or ally in Eve’s quest.
Ian McShane also returns as Winston, the enigmatic manager of the Continental, the famous hotel for assassins that has been central to the saga. So it seems the film will remain strongly connected to the events of the John Wick movies, providing a natural expansion of the already established universe.
Ballerina is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.
