We’re celebrating! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Katy O’Brian, an actress currently on the rise in Hollywood, has signed on to join Glen Powell in The Running Man, the upcoming Paramount film that adapts one of Stephen King’s novels. Ready to know more details?
Here we go!
Edgar Wright will direct the film, as well as co-write the script with Michael Bacall. Simon Kinberg, Nira Park and Wright are producing. Stephen King’s book on which the film is based was published in 1982 and written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The story is set in 2025 in an America under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to appease the disenfranchised masses.
Amidst this scenario, a desperate man, who needs money for his sick daughter, joins the most popular game show, The Running Man, in which teams of assassins hunt down contestants. The longer a contestant survives, the more money that person makes — something that we can’t help but be reminded of Squid Game.
But as the game show’s producers and assassins later find out, this desperate man will break all the rules and expose the show’s dark secrets, destroying it from within. Powell will play that desperate man, taking on the lead role while O’Brian will play one of the show’s contestants.
The Running Man is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.
