When FROM Season 3 Episode 3 ended with Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) seeing that tree in the road, we were afraid this would happen, but after an intense Episode 4, we know it’s true: After everything it took for her to escape, and just when it seemed like she might be on the right path toward finding a way to free everyone, the town has managed to suck her back in. And, during our interview with Sandino Moreno, when we asked her if she was at all surprised by how quickly Tabitha’s journey outside ended, she admitted she “was very upset.”
Because, really, how could you not be? Especially after just finding someone like Henry, who became a real “connection to From-Land.” Not only is he a connection but, the actress noted, once Tabitha found him, she was probably thinking, “okay, maybe he’s gonna help me build this puzzle for us to…try to find out how to take my family and everyone out of From-Land.” Because before that meeting, and before finally getting him to believe her, “she couldn’t see a clear path.” In fact, looking at just how strange it was to be on the outside in the first place, “she was always like so tense and trying to find, find, find [answers].” Which is why, Sandino Moreno told us, “I don’t think those three episodes, she could breathe normally.”
So, now what? Because Tabitha is “going back to her family empty-handed, going back to From-Land empty-handed…a lot of people are not going to understand that she didn’t bring any answers how to leave. And that’s going to be angering.” But it might also give her even more motivation going forward. Over FROM‘s first two seasons, Tabitha went from someone who “didn’t know where she was,” to “digging down” while still in a “safe place” in Season 2. And, now, in Season 3, “this is the season where she explores.” So, “when she comes back to town, I think that’s kind of like a booster for her to just. Keep. Digging. And she’s going to find answers.”
Some of that digging might include revisiting places, or even images, Tabitha has seen before. But, even though Jim and Ethan have both received phone calls from “Thomas,” don’t expect open communication on that matter. For some reason, those mysterious messages seem to be “something of a pattern that happens to him and just him” (meaning Jim).
