There’s been some confusion over rooming at Shiz University in the Wicked movie, and we’ve got a sneak peek at Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba’s (Cynthia Erivo) dorm room.
One of the most well-known Wicked songs is “Popular,” which takes place in Glinda and Elphaba’s dorm. It’s a fun, upbeat number that lets Glinda channel the childhood joy of playing dress-up and doing makeovers. But it’s also part of the turning point in Glinda and Elphaba’s relationship.
We’ve seen clips of the musical number in several Wicked trailers and spots, but this dorm tour contains new footage, featuring fun choreography from Christopher Scott. We’ve seen swinging from chandeliers, high kicks in the hallway and arabesques on the balcony ledge. Now there’s floor choreography and Elphaba’s trying to join in on the fun with a split jump of her own! (We admit our dancing abilities are closer to Elphaba’s than Glinda’s.)
It’s no secret Glinda simply has more: popularity, friends and definitely belongings. The first official Wicked trailer even includes Glinda saying that she “was promised a private suite.” So it’s no wonder the dorm room — which is known to be notoriously small in our non-magical earthly world — is huge. Their Shiz University dorm room is full of Glinda’s pink monogrammed trunks, which are not only stunning but technologically advanced? They’re like magical Caboodles full of clothes, shoes, trinkets and more. It’s like a never ending maze of pink and sparkles. There’s a lot of Wicked movie merch out already, but can someone figure out or sell these storage containers of sorcery? We’d certainly pay for that!
So far, no detail seems to be a second thought, and this Wicked movie dorm tour is no exception. (Clicking ruby slippers, anyone?) It’s a visually stunning display of the contrast between Glinda and Elphaba, and we can’t wait to see it on the silver screen!
Wicked will be released in theaters on Friday, Nov. 22 with select theaters offering early screenings on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
