What a wonderful way to start the week! The latest ‘Wicked’ movie feature includes new song snippets and movie footage. Universal knows fans cannot wait for the film and is keeping us fed as we approach the magical movie’s release.
It may be only 30 seconds long, but there’s a lot to take in. Arguably the most exciting part of the “Wait Till You See This” spot is the music. After all, the ‘Wicked’ movie is a musical. This gives us a first proper listen at Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba’s (Cynthia Erivo) duet, “What is This Feeling?” It’s a fun back-and-forth between the pair who are forced to be Shiz University roommates. We briefly heard just one line from the song when tickets went on sale, but we saw and heard a bit more this time. In fact, the music for this feature is one big mashup.
After “What is This Feeling?” it goes right into a not-yet-heard section of Fiyero’s (Jonathan Bailey) “Dancing Through Life,” followed by Elphaba’s ‘I want’ song, “The Wizard and I.” And in proper musical fashion, the video ends with a bang. Fans of the stage musical will recognize that Erivo makes “The Wizard and I” her own with a riff to finish.
While we appreciate the literal music to our ears, the ‘Wicked’ movie promo is also delivering visually. We see a few new clips of the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum), including a look at the controls of his giant masked facade. There are more flying monkeys, another shot of Glinda dancing during “Popular” and a bit of Doctor Dillamond (Peter Dinklage). Alongside new soundbites of “What is This Feeling?” “Dancing Through Life” and “The Wizard and I” are new video clips. But the footage of “Defying Gravity” is hard to beat. What’s more thrilling than Elphaba literally defying gravity?
