Jacobson Moore is taking on a big class-action case in Matlock Season 1, Episode 5, “Claws,” and Olympia is calling on Matty for help to win it. Little does Matty know this new trial will hit close to home for her. Written by Michelle Leibel and directed by Marie Jamora, “Claws” will double down on the show’s current combination of personal and professional.
The photos show Matty and Olympia meeting with someone at the business Nail Enchantment by Senia. Presumably, this interaction comes after Olympia tells Matty, “We’re starting a trial tomorrow, and I am asking you to win this case,” as heard in the promo. It’s possible that the lead plaintiff in Jacobson Moore’s case knows Senia or one of her employees.
It looks like Matty may get her nails done to learn more about whatever truth lies in Nail Enchantment, but the case’s context will bring everything too close to Matty’s real life. The class-action suit is against the prison system, and the lead plaintiff is someone jailed on drug charges who relapses. Matlock Season 1, Episode 4, “The Rabbit and the Hawk,” sees Olympia and Matty become allies in the viper’s nest. Additionally, it is another example of the show’s cases getting closer to Matty’s life, like Matlock Season 1, Episode 3, “A Guy Named Greg.”
Matlock fans must wait until Thursday, November 7, to see how the case impacts Matty and vice versa. After all, one of the only things the promo reveals is that “Team You Three” is celebrating something. Could it be about Matty successfully setting Sarah up with a girl from IT? Or is it related to the case? Otherwise, all the promo shows is that Matty has a long-shot plan for the case. Matty and Olympia agree – in unison – that the latter is “better than no shot.”
Outside of the case-of-the-week, Matlock Season 1, Episode 5, “Claws,” will also continue the show’s serialized case. It seems like Matty’s husband, Edwin, will be working with Matty more after their confrontations and conversations in “The Rabbit and the Hawk.” Unsurprisingly but delightfully, Edwin tells Matty, “You’re amazing,” in the promo video. Matty responds, “I know,” holding what looks like a piece of plastic with a fingerprint transferred on it. Whose fingerprint is that? What does it have to do with uncovering the truth about Senior and the documents at Jacobson Moore? Is it Thursday yet?
