It’s hard to believe that Ben Barnes released his first EP, “Songs For You,” just three years ago. It was a soulful and heartfelt EP with just five tracks that left us wanting more. It looks like we have now gotten our wish because Barnes has released a new track, and that’s not all. He also announced that his first album is coming next year.
How exciting is this to hear? Barnes’s first studio album, “Where The Light Gets In,” will be released on January 10, 2025, and we cannot think of a better way to kick off the year. The first track, titled “Beloved,” is a song that could not be more perfect, especially considering everything happening in the world at this very minute. We need a song to uplift us, and Barnes’s track makes us feel that. The music video features Barnes as a therapist clad in glasses as a young woman, played by Camilla Belle, sits across from him, seemingly having difficulty expressing her thoughts and feelings.
“Beloved,” which was written by Barnes, Kevin Burke, and Nathan Fertig, is a song filled with poignant lyrics, such as, “I know your mind’s working overtime, eyes shut tight to wish on a star, your heart is beating to match mine, but I want who you already are.” It’s a beautiful representation of what it feels like to be seen—really seen for who and what you are. We all want to be loved. We all want someone to love us for who we are.

The title track that is ushering us into a new music era for Barnes has us incredibly excited for what’s to come with the album. And this writer, who got to hear a sneak peek of a few songs off the album at Barnes’s show at the Troubadour earlier this year, can say you will not be disappointed. I loved “Songs For You,” but it’s apparent from the new songs that Barnes has evolved with his music. His vocals on “Beloved” are an indication of that. I can’t wait for more people to hear his new music. Barnes has been working hard to get this album out because, as we know, it takes years to get your music to the right people, and it is a long, arduous process.

The artwork for “Where The Light Gets In” is stunning, and based on Ben’s Instagram post, the theme is focused on “Kintsugi.” If you don’t know what that is, Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by adorning it with lacquer mixed with powdered gold. It’s a representation and reminder of the beauty of human fragility. It also reminds us to stay optimistic when things fall apart and that it’s okay to love our flaws because they make us beautiful.
