Treasures. My Grandma used to say that one persons trash was another persons treasure. I wasn’t ever really sure what she meant by that – because wasn’t a treasure, just that? Something valuable. It wasn’t until I grew older that I really began to understand the meaning of the phrase and that value on things is different to everyone involved.
This weeks Miracles of Christmas movie, Five Golden Rings, was both beautiful and filled with spirit. It both moved my heart and made me feel feelings of love and Christmas, but also made me cry my eyes out.
And that’s what I have come to expect from movies that celebrate the holidays. It’s what I’ve come to expect from Hallmark movies, giving you what you need even though you didn’t know that you needed it.
Five Golden Rings stars Holland Roden and Nolan Gerard Funk. Audrey (Roden) returns home for Christmas after the passing of her Grandmother. Her Grandmother left her with a quest – to find the owners of five golden rings that she had found on her treasure hunt. She said to save the best for last and to ask Finn O’Sullivan for help on her quest.
Finn (Funk) is the local PI. There is a past there – Audrey and her Grandmother had once found a medal that belonged to him once and the families had stayed close. From the moment that Audrey and Finn reconnect, you can see their immediate draw to each other. The way that Finn lights up at the sound of Audrey’s voice, you can tell that he has harbored feelings for her for years.

She hires him to work with her to find the owners of the five treasures that her Grandmother has left her.
If we’re being honest, Finn is intimidating. He’s that silent type, but his presence is there. He’s comfort and he’s the type of man that could become home. Audrey seems to naturally withdraw from him and yet be drawn to him. I think that it was one of the things that everyone in the town saw but them.
The way that Finn and Audrey are able to work together in order to find the clues is endearing. It’s so simple, but so complex, because listening and actually hearing is one of the hardest things for any of us to do. With these two it comes so naturally and easily. Each seems to find a comfort in each other.
As each case is solved and the gold ring is returned, you really do learn about what things are important to people. You see the joy in peoples faces when reunited with the pieces that are a part of them. They are able to see the joy in peoples faces and how their work is important to the people whose lives they touch.
Finn and Audrey are naturally growing closer and finding peace with each other. The attraction is there and Audrey seems to be doing everything to fight it. Finn, on the other hand, isn’t being shy or coy about it. He wants her to know that she’s special and that she matters to him.
The beauty of this movie is the journey. We get to see all of the characters in this movie have a journey that is opening both their hearts and minds. I found seeing the joy, love, and hope in everyone a beautiful thing that keeps the story progressing, but also continues to give hope.

Finn and Audrey’s friendship is blossoms throughout the entire movie, allowing her to open up her own heart and be inspired, letting her allow herself to love him. Her Grandmother sent her on a quest, but it turned out to be one that was more important than Audrey could have thought.
Sometimes you need a push to remember where you belong and what means something to you. Audrey, coming home and going on this quest to return things to people reminded her of what matters. It’s her families antique shop, her home, her art, and making something more of the life that she’s been living.
And at the end of the day the girl gets the guy and the guy gets the girl. Maybe even better than that is just the joy of people living their best lives.
I love that for us.
