Just like everyone else in FROMville, Ellis (Corteon Moore) has been through a lot in FROM Season 3. The latest episode, FROM Season 3 Episode 9, sees the town searching for Fatima. As viewers know, she was taken hostage at the end of Episode 8, but Ellis doesn’t know Elgin has her locked away in the root cellar — or even if she’s alive. But wait! There’s (as always) more. In Episode 9, Ellis also finally learns about his dad’s illness and sees, with his very own eyes, just how much it’s affecting Boyd. So, our first question for Moore during our interview was how he thinks Ellis is dealing with it all. “I don’t think he’s doing very well,” Moore told us.
But…then, he took his initial answer back. “It’s not that he’s not doing very well. I think he’s just dealing with a lot. And the way I see it, at this point, is he’s compartmentalizing everything.” Admitting that his character is “still young” and “still that same Ellis that we knew from Season 1. So, he’s a bit of a reactionary hothead,” Moore told us Ellis is “really trying to grasp at…the little things he can maintain, like the hope that his wife…Fatima is still alive and is still out there.” Similarly, when it comes to how he’s dealing with Boyd’s illness, he’s holding onto the idea that “although his dad is sick, he is standing there, [or] sitting there, right in front of him. And he’s there in this moment.”
Basically, going into the FROM Season 3 finale, all Ellis can think about is Fatima. “He’s like, ‘I can’t lose Fatima.’ That’s it. ‘I can’t lose Fatima. We’ll deal with what’s wrong with my dad later.'” So, Moore told us, “in one way, I think…he’s matured, and he’s finally focusing on other people. And he’s figuring out how to actually help in a way. [But] in another way, I think he is just a scared kid who’s like, just not ready to lose another thing. And he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
Part of that “whatever it takes” is accepting an offer from Elgin to be partners during the town’s search for Fatima. But things take a very weird turn very early on. Ellis “just picks up that something is not quite right with this kid that used to be, like, soft-spoken, so scared of blood…in the corner all the time.” Especially since he’s now trying to teach Ellis how to “be cool, calm, and collected in a crisis” while rambling about a bigger picture. “Like, that just doesn’t make sense.”
Even Elgin asking Ellis “to come along on a search party” in the first place is strange. As Moore pointed out, “he did technically save my life, but we don’t have a crazy relationship like that. So, I think it’s just this idea that somebody all of a sudden is…acting out of character.” After all, if you spend enough time in FROMville, “you see people at their worst and at their best, you know, and everything in between. [So], you start to pick up on…social cues. And when you’re trying to solve a mystery…your brain just starts racking in a different way.” Besides, to loop things back to what Elgin tries to discuss with Ellis, “it’s just like, dude, what the H— are you talking about? Like, this is like, you sound crazy.”
Because of how Elgin behaves, Ellis is “going to do something.” What that something is, you’ll have to wait and see in the FROM Season 3 finale. But Corteon Moore does have some non-specific, spoiler-free words for you about what to expect. Two key points here: “A: I think it’s the biggest finale we’ve ever had, without a doubt, between all three seasons. It’s…definitely the most…I would say explosive…And B: I think people finally get some answers.” As always, expect some scary moments. And don’t worry about those answers Moore promises implying there won’t be anything left for us to explore. Because for “as much as we answer,” there are also “a bunch of new things that, um, are just like, ‘what the H— is going on here?'”
Well, that certainly sounds intriguing…
