We were all in shock the day that we heard that Lance Reddick passed away at the age of 60. The actor had such an amazing career and definitely left an impression on the world. For a lot of us, that impression was most recently as Zeus in Disney+‘s adaptation of Percy Jackson & The Olympians.
Stepping into those shoes can’t be easy and we knew that the role of Zeus would need to be recast. Courtney B. Vance is stepping into the shoes of Zeus in the adaptation.
The actor posted on his Instagram account, simply captioning the post, “🔱 Zeus. :-)”
Vance did release a statement to People.com, “I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the extraordinary cast of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians!'”
The statement continues, “There are few moments in an actor’s career when you can honestly say that you’re about to board a series that has such a devoted fan base filled with characters beloved around the world and is based on a wildly successful book series. I know that stepping into this role of Zeus will be a memorable experience and I’ll be giving my brother, Lance Reddick, who left us way too soon, a heavenly hug.”
We’re looking forward to this second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We will miss Reddick. That being said, Vance is an incredible actor and if there is anyone besides Reddick that can do the role justice it would be Vance. We are looking forward to seeing him as Zeus.
