Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456, played by Lee Jung-jae, gives up going to the states. Instead, he stays, a new resolution and revenge at the forefront of his mind. He’s going to end the game and save others from the pain and heartache of the whole experience. That doesn’t mean that those in charge are going to make it easy for him. From what we’ve seen of teasers, they’ve alluded him. Now the official trailer for Squid Game season 2 makes it clear that he’s been welcomed back with a bunch of new faces joining in.
The season 2 trailer in particular teases new dynamics. On the contestant front we have a mother and son working the game together to get out of debt. We also have contestants aware that Gi-hun has participated in the game before. And instead of taking advantage of his knowledge, they’re predictably trying to win the game. But there are signs that Gi-hun is changing minds and hearts, leading to violent confrontations between the contestants and the security staff.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history at the 74th Primetime Emmys® becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, once again helms the series as director, writer, and producer. Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo reprise their roles from Season 1. And a list of new cast members includes Yim Si-wan (The Merciless), Kang Ha-neul (Curtain Call), Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home), Lee Jin-uk (Sweet Home), Park Sung-hoon (Queen of Tears), Yang Dong-geun (The Forbidden Marriage), Kang Ae-sim (A Virtuous Business), Choi Seung-hyun (Secret Message), Roh Jae-won (Daily Dose of Sunshine), Jo Yu-ri (Mimicus), and Won Ji-an (Heartbeat).
